Who are we?
QuMUN was founded at Queen's College Taunton with just three dedicated participants, under the visionary guidance of Nick O'Donnell, the former Mayor of Taunton. What began as a modest debating club has since blossomed into a thriving intellectual community, now engaging over 40 passionate students in dynamic weekly debates that challenge perspectives and forge diplomatic skills.
Our club is built upon the cornerstone values of leadership, diplomacy, and intellectual growth. Students from Year 9 to Year 12 who demonstrate unwavering dedication, resilience in the face of challenging debates, and exceptional oratory skills are carefully selected to serve as Committee Chairs in the following year's conference. This prestigious role recognizes those who embody the spirit of Model United Nations and show promise as future global leaders.
Those chosen as Chairs undertake a pivotal responsibility that extends far beyond the conference itself. Over the summer months, each Chair meticulously researches global issues, crafts a comprehensive Briefing Paper providing delegates with essential background knowledge, and drafts an initial Resolution for their assigned committee. These foundational documents become the cornerstone for rigorous debate sessions, where delegates from diverse backgrounds collaborate, negotiate complex solutions, and thoughtfully amend proposals to reach impactful, consensus-driven outcomes that mirror real-world international diplomacy.
At QuMUN, we transcend traditional debate—we cultivate the next generation of global leaders, foster critical thinking that challenges conventional wisdom, nurture diplomatic skills essential for international cooperation, and empower students to engage with pressing global issues with confidence, compassion, and conviction. Our delegates learn that true leadership lies not in winning arguments, but in building bridges between different perspectives to create meaningful change.
